Celebrating the 50th Student-Built Home and Looking Ahead

Introducing the HBA Trades Education Center

As HBA of Billings approaches the completion of our 50th Student-Built Home, we are excited to announce a new chapter in our commitment to education: the launch of the HBA Trades Education Center.

Expanding Construction Education and Training

We are elevating our efforts to broaden construction education and training opportunities. Our goal is to serve all area high schools and also to support adults interested in pursuing careers in the construction trades by providing the essential training they need.

Features of the Trades Education Center

The new training center will offer versatile classroom spaces that can be reconfigured into two smaller rooms, as well as two large shops designed for hands-on training, each with the option to convert into two smaller shop areas. Additional amenities include an outdoor area dedicated to dirt work and heavy equipment training, a fully functional kitchen, a copy room, and a loft meeting/work area ideal for small groups.

Collaborative Curriculum Development

While we plan to offer some targeted trades curriculum, our intention is not to duplicate existing efforts. Instead, we aim to partner with other Montana organizations currently providing or planning to provide trades education and training, offering them a place to implement and expand their curriculum. We also intend to utilize the expertise of the Home Builder Institute for curriculum development and instruction.

Project Timeline and Support Opportunities

Groundbreaking for the HBA Trades Education Center is scheduled for Spring of 2027.

In the interim, our foundation, HBA Building Visions, will focus on raising the remaining funds necessary for construction. Contributions of cash or materials are fully tax-deductible as charitable donations and can be arranged through the HBA by contacting Kim Welzenbach.
